Getting the Most out of HVAC Reviews

HVAC equipment is a major purchase and one of the best way to begin researching is by reading HVAC reviews. Reviews can provide you with the experience of others and will help you determine which brands and models are well respected and which consistently get poor reviews. The key to getting the most out of HVAC reviews is to be organized, document features, prices, warranty information and other details. Once you’ve decided on the right HVAC equipment, don’t skimp on installation. By using the following information as a plan you’ll be able to get the most out of the time you spend researching HVAC systems.

Get Organized
To get the most out of HVAC reviews, it pays to get organized. Grab a notebook or use a spreadsheet to keep track of what you find. Across the top list the Manufacturer and model of each piece of equipment that seems like it will fit your needs. For rows, use features, prices, warranty, URL and notes headers to document your findings. If you update your spreadsheet as you research you’ll quickly amass a good deal of data on the various kinds of HVAC equipment available.

Features and Warranty

The different features of each model will be good to note. You’ll want to refer back to your list and immediately be able to see which furnaces had the highest AFUE ratings for example. If you note important feature sets your list will be more useful. Also important to note is the warranty that is available with each brand.  For instance when looking at Goodman gas furnace reviews you should keep in mind that they are considered a lower tier hvac company and likely will have less features to go with that lower price.

HVAC Prices

One of the most important pieces of information to look for will be pricing. As you read reviews on forums and other websites, make a note on your spreadsheet of the prices you find. Note that prices become outdated quickly so these prices will just serve as a rough estimate of what you will expect to pay. When you note a price also note whether it includes installation or if it was just the equipment itself. Also, did the price include tax and/or shipping?

Installation is Critical

it’s important to know that no matter which HVAC equipment you decide to purchase, the quality of the installation will make or break your system.  A good installer will be able to help you size your home using Manual J guidelines (be wary of those who only use your square footage as a guide). Knowing which size furnace or A/C unit to buy is critical in getting the right product. The quality of the duct work is also an important component of the installation. When reading reviews, you can also search for reviews on particular contractors to see what other folks’ experience has been.

If you take some time to organize the information you find, you can come away with a good deal of information about several manufacturers and lots of models. Once you have built your list you can quickly see which products get high reviews and have the features you want at a price you can afford.
